November 7th update

Nancy had a full Doctor appointment and infusion last Friday. All her numbers were in range which is great. Nancy has had some recent pain, which could be the nerves actually coming back after radiation. Nancy (Mike and I) will be in Green Bay with Nancy's family for Thanksgiving. Thank you all for the wonderful support!

Update October 10th

Nancy had her appointment last Friday. Also had her normal infusion, flu shot, etc. She has been not feeling well for the last few days. Overall, our Doctor was positive. Not much other news.... All the kids and grandkids were here a week ago..which is wonderful therapy for Nancy (me too!) Again, the support has been terrific. Just not much to report, which is good! Thank you, BC

August 15th update

Nancy had her appointment last Friday. Her CA-2729 numbers have trended upwards for the last three checks. The results from the most recent appointment will be known in about a week. If that trend continues, they will have Nancy take another PET scan. We should know this week or next week at the latest. Happy Birthday Mike Curry today!

Nancy just finished three weeks of vacation, both on Whidbey Island and back in Wisconsin with her family. She got home last night. The whole Gajafsky clan were together for her Dad's birthday August 2nd. She still has some headaches and occasional pain....but overall, she had a wonderful three weeks. Friday is another infusion and Doctor visit. Hope you are all having a great summer!

July 12th Update

Nancy had her appointment with Dr Anthony today. It was agreed that she would continue with Zomeda on a monthly basis (sometimes after 2 years, they go to quarterly). Also, she will try the new generic Femara. She has had physical therapy 2-3 times per week, and exercises every day for her left arm. On a positive note, Nancy rode her bike around the neighborhood....first time in two years. Summer is here in Spokane! Thanks to all for your support!!!

June 21st update

Nancy returned to Zomeda for treatment last week. The effects after the infusion were normal.... feels like the right med for Nancy to take. Today she begins therapy on her left arm. They are trying to schedule her for two visits per week.
Also, today we will have real summer weather in Spokane... 80 degrees (hooray).
Thank you all for your support of Nancy!

June 14th update

Nancy has another appointment with Dr Anthony today. The two main topics will be: should Nancy still get Xgiva or should she go back to Zomeda, and what we can do to improve her left arm pain? The first is important as this is one of two major meds that Nancy takes. We will keep you posted on this in about a week. Hope you are all enjoying summer, we are still waiting in Spokane for summer to start (chuckle)

May 25th update

Nancy did not get to see her Mom in Greem Bay for Mother's Day. Early morning May
8th I had a heart attack....so she spent Mom's Day at Holy Family hospital. They put a stent in, and a full recovery is anticipated. We did have both boys (and one
grandson) as visitors. Grama was busy with Deacon!
Nancy had her regular appointment last week. She has been unusually tired for the last two weeks. Next scheduled appt is June 14th. She will get to see the grandkids (and Todd, Ally and Mike) next weekend.

The cards, letters, calls and emails continue to bless Nancy, thank you all, BC

May 2nd update....good news!

Nancy had her appointment last Friday. Following are taken from the scan findings:

"Sites of osseous metastatic disease within the chest, abdomen, and pelvis appear to be less intense than on previous examination. This is particularly notable at T11 with improvement seen at the levels of T7 and T8. Uptake at L3 in the lumbar spine is also significantly improved. Pelvic lesions are also less intense. Lesion in the posterior column of the left acetabulum is also less intense. No new lesions are identified."

This report shows not only stability but improvement! No new cancer findings, and the existing is less intense in some areas.

Nancy's knee is still an issue, and she will soon be scheduled for that.

Thank you for all your support, we will try to keep you informed.

April 26th update

Nancy had the scans.... and her follow-up appointment is this Friday with Dr Anthony. Will update when we get the results. Thanks for all the support!

April 11th Update

Nancy had an appointment last Thursday. They did change to Xgeva, the alternative for Zomeda. This treatment is a shot, so it takes much less time for the appointment. Nancy had some reaction, similar or a little less than the Zomeda.

At the Doctor's review it was decided to take two scans. These are a couple of months early.... so Thursday and next Tuesday Nancy are her times for those scans.
One area of concern is Nancy's knee.

We will update as we get the scan results. Your support is wonderful! Thank you!

April 3rd Update

Nancy and I have been in Austin since the 25th. She has had a wonderful time with Keeton, getting to know Deacon, and of course, time with Todd and Ally. She had one very bad day, and a few headaches that meds took care of......overall has been a very good trip. We return to Spokane Monday night.

Thursday we are at Dr Anthony's..... maybe this time we change from Zomeda, maybe not. Nancy continues her neck exercises... my belief is there has been a small improvement; it is too early to tell yet.

Nancy's Dad is in Florida getting treatments for cancer. Round one of treatments are now being increased (doubled) starting tomorrow.

I know there have not been many updates lately, but there has not been much new news.

Thank you all, BC

March 12th update

Nancy (and I) have a new grandson, Deacon Bennett was born on Tuesday. Mom and baby are doing well; they are at home now. We will go visit on March 25th.

Nancy also went to her first physical therapy for her neck. She now has a daily regimine to do. Hopefully this will help with the headaches.

Your support continues to be terrific, thank you!

March 6th Update

Nancy met with Dr Anthony on Thursday. Insurance still has not approved the Zomeda-like replacement, so they decided to give Nancy another Zomeda infusion. So they did that, and Nancy has rested and doing ok. Nancy and Dr Anthony are still wanting to change to the new meds if/when approved by insurance.

Thanks again for all the support. It appears that next Wednesday Nancy (and I) will become grand-parents for the second time. Could be another boy, could be a girl. Even Todd and Ally do not know yet!

March 3rd Update

Nancy met with Dr Bender yesterday. The main purpose was to see what we can do for her headaches. After a long review, he suggested some physical therapy for her neck, and for now, no change in meds. (Nancy's headaches typically start with neck pain, and he had some ideas on how that might improve with the therapy). He would change her meds to some daily more preventative type if needed. Today we see Dr Anthony.

February 12th update

GREEN BAY WON.........

Nancy had her appointment. Lotsa news. First, she did not have Zomeda, she is changing to a new approved drug called Xgeva. It is supposed to be more effective that Zomeda, with probable less side effects. Also, it is a shot, not an IV infusion. Insurance has not approved this yet, so we are delaying her first injection until March 3rd. Nancy will be in Maui for 10 days first (hooray).

The appointment ended up being a blood draw (all numbers are ok), a consultation, and lunch at Olive Garden.....not so bad.

Also, she has a March 2nd appointment with a specialist for her headaches. His name is Dr Bill Bender.

Probably no updates until March 3 or 4, Aloha and Mahalo from Nancy for all the support!

January 31st Update

Nancy is getting headaches again.....so, she is now back on Femara. Not sure what else they can try.... our next appt and Zomeda infusion is Feb 11th.

Now is the time to focus on football, GO-PACK-GO!

January 26th Update

Nancy has been on her new meds for a couple of days....and has had a few days with no headaches. It's early in the change......but so far, no headaches.

Nancy's Dad was also diagnosed with cancer (lymphoma). He is in Florida with Nancy's sister Sharon (a nurse) and they are making treatment plans.

And finally, Green Bay in the Super Bowl.....

January 18th Update

Nancy had her appointment with Dr Anthony today. The results of the bone scan shows the "suspicious spot" is nothing, and there will be no MRI. That is not the source of the headaches. All Nancy's numbers are in line, and the bone scan confirmed that the cancer is contained or stabilized. They are going to try an alternative to Femara called Aromasin. This is also an estrogen inhibiter, however it is made from a totally different compound and may have other side effects. It is possible that the Femara is now causing the headaches.... so, we will try this for one month and see how it goes. Next appointment is February 11th. Thank you for all your help and support, BC

January 13th Update

The bone scan is this morning. Not sure about the MRI schedule yet. We will hopefully have some feedback next Tuesday.

January 8th update

The first week of January was hard on Nancy, with her neck pain and headaches. Her left arm is also not right. Yesterday we met with Dr. Liang, the radiation oncologist. Dr Liang found a "spot" on a previous scan on the spine in the neck area. She immediately called Dr Anthony. Nancy has a tentative bone scan on Tuesday (waiting on insurance approval), with probable MRI's on Thursday to learn all we can about this spot. The goal is to have those test results back for Nancy's Jan 18th appointment. This could be the source of Nancy's neck pain and headaches. (It could also be nothing).

There will also be some changes of treatment for Nancy's left arm.

We will keep you updated as we know more. Thanks for all the support, BC
